The above unfortunately blurry picture is of the subway station Sendlinger Tor where I got off near my hotel.  It took me a while to figure out how to buy a subway ticket when I got to Munich, because everything was in German, which is odd since tourists should be expected to be trying to take the subway.  There is a way to get an English translation on the subway ticket machine, but that's hard to figure out too.
Subway

The above picture is of the subway map. The convention center is at Messestradt West, at the right edge of the map on the thick red line, the U2 line. I took this west, to the left, to Sendlinger Tor, the big station after the thick red line crosses the river, to get to my hotel. Above that on the map is Karlsplatz, where I got the train to the airport on S8 to the right and up or S1 to the left and up.  The airport is to the north, off the map, indicated by the airplane symbols on the map. I never saw Bono on the subway, but I did see what must be undercover transit cops. On two occasions a person jumped up while the train was moving, announced something in German and everyone reached for their train tickets or passes.

The picture above is along the walk from the subway station to my hotel, which is on the road to the left.  Just behind the hotel, on the next street, is Allerheiligenkirche (All Saints Church). The church tower is in the middle of this picture.  I got home near sunset so there are already lights on in the shops on the first floors of the buildings.
Walk to Hotel

The picture above is of a manhole cover in front of a fruit stand. In the middle of the manhole cover is the image of a monk, with his arms up and his robes draped off his arms.  You ask: Why is there a monk on a manhole cover?  Because that is the symbol of Munich.
