Larry's DATE 2008 Trip (4)
The next day, the conference began at the
convention center. Everything there was in
English. Outside the convention
center everyone spoke German, of course, but would switch to English as
soon as I said "Hello." The above picture is at the Speaker's
Breakfast
on Tuesday morning. There is a section of a table for the
speakers for each session. Since I would be speaking twice, I had
to eat breakfast at two different tables. Fortunately, I was
relatively hungry.

The picture above is of the meeting room
where I
was scheduled to give both of my speeches. For the first speech, I was
filling
in
for someone. I asked the moderator to take a picture of me, but
he forgot. The speech was very difficult because I was talking about
something I had just heard about a week earlier. Later the
moderator said I was not very lively. But I was concentrating on my
facts. I asked a couple of audience members later and they said my
explanation of the material was good.

Above is a picture of the first pages of the
two papers I presented.
The paper on the left was written by my thesis advisor and some of his
students. The paper on the right is the one that my advisor and I
wrote.

The above picture is from the third floor
looking down
on the first floor of the convention center. The entrance is to the
right.
The coffee stand is surrounded by servers in black pants and white
shirts.
There are exhibitor booths at the right toward the back.
Coat check is on the second floor and meeting rooms are on the first
and
third floors.
